What are Unresponsive Yoyos?

What are unresponsive yoyos? Unresponsive yoyos represent the evolution of modern yoyoing today as it gives players the ability to perform complex tricks that would be difficult with traditional automatic (responsive) yoyos. The top players use unresponsive yoyos to compete at the highest level.

What Makes a Yoyo Unresponsive?

An unresponsive yoyo does not automatically return to your hand when tugged, unlike traditional automatic (responsive) yoyos. This is typically due to:

  • Larger ball bearing: Center Trac C ball bearing.
  • Larger Gap Width: Features a wider gap between the two halves of the yoyo.
  • Thin Response Pads: Utilizes silicone thin response pads that grip the string when a specific trick called Bind is performed.

Why Top Players Choose Unresponsive Yoyos

Professional and advanced players prefer these yoyos because they offer:

  • Longer Spin Time: The ball bearing inside and the reduced friction between the gap allows for complex and advanced trick combinations.
  • Greater Control: Players can choose when to return the yoyo back to their hand by doing the trick called Bind.
  • Customized Performance: More options to customize preferences in responsiveness with the variety of response pads.

Yoyo Trick You Need to Do: Bind

Unresponsive yoyos requires players to know how to do the trick Bind. This allows players to perform more complex tricks without the yoyo snapping back unexpectedly compared to automatic yoyos.

Here is a tutorial from SkillAddicts on how to perform a Bind:
