Offstring (4A) yoyos open up a world of creative tricks, but there’s one challenge you may have asked yourself: How do you wind an offstring yoyo back up that’s not even attached to the string?
The good news? Winding an offstring yoyo is easy once you know these two methods. Let’s learn two methods (easy and advanced) on how to wind up an offstring yoyo.
Easy Wind Up
This is the most common and beginner-friendly method.
- Hold the yo-yo in one hand (usually your non-throw hand).
- Insert the string into the gap, placing it against the side of the axle.
- Begin manually winding the string around the axle and over itself.
- Once there’s enough tension, keep winding until the yo-yo is fully wound.
✅ Works every time
✅ Simple, but can take a few seconds
Tip: Keep your wind tight and even to prevent slippage on the next throw.
Avdanved Quick Wind
Once you’re more experienced, try a snap start for faster resets. This is especially helpful during freestyles.
- Hold the yoyo onto the loop of the string.
- Snap the yoyo back your non-throw hand to spin the yoyo.
- As it starts spinning, gently bind it by wrapping the loose end of the string around the yoyo and tug up with your throw hand.
⚠️ This takes practice to get consistent.
The YoYoFactory Flight is balanced enough to make snap starts much easier than smaller offstring models.
The Flight Yoyo is designed to make all aspects of offstring play—including winding—more forgiving and more fun.
✅ Wide, stable design
✅ Durable enough to survive drops
✅ Smooth, unresponsive bearing for easier winds and binds
✅ Used by both beginners and top 4A players
