Looking to impress with flashy looking yoyo tricks that look hard but won’t take months to master? These three professional yoyo tricks are intermediate-friendly, but deliver major style points. Whether you’re just getting into unresponsive play or want to add some flair to your trick library, these are great advanced looking tricks.
Want more? Check out more unresponsive yoyo tricks that look difficult but are easy here.
Why it looks advanced: Large, high movement
What makes it easy: Starts from Trapeze and requires a steady catch rhythm
Eli Hops is one of the first “wow” tricks players learn from unresponsive play. The yoyo shoots vertically out from the string and lands back on the same string in multiple intervals. It’s eye-catching and a useful technique to learn for any yoyo player that requires rhythm and confidence. No complicated mounts—just hop, land, repeat.
Pro tip: Start small. Keep the hops low until you’ve nailed the timing, then go big by moving having your hands touch with each hop.
Why it looks advanced: Slack whip + triangle combo? Must learn for advanced play!
What makes it easy: The motion is fluid and easier than it looks once performed.
This trick combines two flashy elements: a laceration (slack loop catching the yoyo) and a small movement to land into a Green Triangle (GT). While it might look like a pro-only combo, it’s surprisingly simple if you already know basic slack techniques.
Start by mastering the standard laceration. Then, with a slight adjustment, catch the yoyo with only your right hand with the string around your wrist. Move your non-throw hand index finger under the yoyo to land into a GT. Then hop out the back to get out and Bind.
Pro tip: Practice the laceration motion multiple times until it becomes almost “second nature” to catch the yoyo with only your throw hand.
Why it looks advanced: Optical illusion vibe
What makes it easy: Simple technical string moves
Magic Trick earns its name from emphasized end where all the strings “magically” unravel. You land in what appears to be a complex knot, but then dismount effortlessly. It’s a classic example of a trick that looks complicated and more technical, but is perfect for intermediate players to learn!
This trick is all about presentation. The fast set up and slow, but sudden release of the string delivers a satisfying finish.
Pro tip: Using longer string than for fast combos can make this trick easier to do!
You’ll need a professional, unresponsive, yoyo to perform these tricks. Here are some great yoyo reccomendations:
