How to Stop Your Yoyo String From Twisting

When you have been playing yoyo for some time and then notice your string is twisting, making it difficult to yoyo, you’re dealing with not clear string tension. If you’re wondering how to stop your yoyo string from twisting, we’ll show you how to correct it and offer an even better solution with DNA String where you’ll never have to correct it again.

Why Does a Yoyo String Twist?

Vibrant colorful string yo-yo for tricks, skill, and fun play. Perfect for yo-yo enthusiasts and beg.

Every time you throw a yoyo or land certain tricks, small twists are added to the string. Over time, those twists build up, meaning you should know how to keep your yoyo string from twisting.

Too much tension can cause a variety of problems, including:

  • Inconsistent binds
  • A yoyo that tilts or feels unstable
  • More frequent knots
  • Interruptions during yoyoing

The more you play, the more noticeable the tension becomes. One of the biggest culprits is the DNA trick. As the string wraps around your finger and the yoyo multiple times, it quickly introduces twists that can make the next few throws feel completely different.

It doesn’t matter if you’re using a beginner yoyo or an unresponsive yoyo, string tension affects everyone.

Two Ways to Untwist Your Yoyo String

  1. Let the yoyo hang freely and allow the string to untwist before continuing.
  2. Throw a frontstyle throw and form an L shape with your non-throw hand. Place the string in the gap between your thumb and index finger. As you pop the yoyo upward, gently flutter the string to add or remove tension. Move the string to either side to tighten or loosen the tension until it feels right.

Instead of trying to prevent string twists, the YoYoFactory DNA String is designed to manage it consistently.

Despite its name, the DNA String isn’t only for doing the DNA trick.

Its built-in swivel allows the string to rotate freely, helping release accumulated tension while you play. Rather than stopping every few minutes to manually untwist your string, the swivel does much of the work for you.
