Yoyo Counterweights FAQ

What is 5A / Freehand Style of Yoyo Play?

5A, also called counterweight or freehand, is 1 of 5 yoyo styles, where the string is not tied to your finger. A small weight sits at the end of the string. The yoyo and the weight move independently. You control two moving objects at once.

To begin 5A play, attach the string to the counterweight by feeding it through the hole and your finger loop. Connect the string to the yoyo bearing as normal.
