Top Beginner Yoyo Tricks

Looking to start yoyoing and learn some of the top beginner yoyo tricks?
Here are five essential yoyo tricks every beginner should learn with a few tips on the best yoyos to get started with and where to keep learning!
The Sleeper is the first and most important trick to learn. Learning how to properly throw correctly will set you up for easier learning on future tricks.
Tips: Throw with power. The harder you throw, the longer it spins, and the easier it will be to get the yoyo back to your hand.
This trick is not only fun to do but helps you work on aim, control, and returning the yoyo with confidence.
Tips: The closer your arm is to your body when you pull the yoyo back, the easier it will be to catch the yoyo.
Breakaway introduces sideways throw that is used in the majority of yoyo string tricks today.
Tips: You can practice by swinging the yoyo in front, back and forth, to get comfortable with the movement.
This is a classic and one of the first string tricks most players learn.
Tips: Spread your fingers as wide as you can to make enough room for the yoyo to swing through. It should swing comfortable closer by your hand.
Once you’re comfortable with the Sleeper, Stop & Go gets more into the fun aspects of yoyo tricks.
Tips: The harder you throw, the easier this trick will be to do.
Choosing the right yoyo can make a huge difference. At YoYoFactory Europe, we have two beginner-friendly recommendations:
Spinstar: Super low maintenance, ready to use right out of the packaging, and built for learning the basics.Â
ONE: A responsive yoyo with an option to upgrade to unresponsive play later.
