Before you can throw your first Sleeper or Rock the Baby, you need to set up your yoyo string correctly. One of the most important steps that’s often overlooked by beginners is learning how to tie a yoyo string with a proper slipknot so it fits comfortably on your finger.
This guide will walk you through the simple steps to make a slipknot for your yoyo string.
Why Make a Slipknot?
Although yoyo strings often come with a pre-tired loop, placing this directly onto your finger may not fit properly. If the loop is not tight enough on your finger, the string can be at risk for slipping off during play and cause the yoyo to fly off and damage something.
Since fingers come in different sizes, you want to create a loop that is snug and secure but not too tight that it is difficult to remove.
Therefore, creating a slipknot allows you to easily adjust the loop size for a secure fit and makes it quick to remove the string off your finger when needed. Especially when you need to shorten your string length, knowing how to make a new loop is essential.

How to Tie a Yoyo String
Follow these simple steps to make a slip knot at the end of your string:
Choose your desired string length, fold excess string and then wrap around your finger.
Form a small loop by pulling the folded string through. Cut the excess string off.
Now take this newly formed loop and place it over the string. Pull that middle string through. This is the slipknot that will go on your finger.
Place this slip over your throw hand’s middle finger, between the first and second knuckle, and tighten so that the knot is below your finger.
